Tuya/Smart Life curtain switch no longer supported by Google Home

SmartLiving
Community Member

Tuya/Smart Life curtain switch is apparently no longer supported by Google Home. The switches work fine from Tuya or Smart life app, but in Google Home they show as devices without any controls. My old switches stopped working with voice control (Google Home) quite some time ago, but now I added more curtain switches (new version) and that the controls are still not available (voice control works with Open and Close, but no Stop command).
I don't understand why this functionality has been removed (it was working just fine earlier).
I hope that Google will address this issue soon, as this was a function that we use a lot (for curtains, blinds and awnings). In the meantime I will be try to setup scenes/routines that does operate the devices correctly and also works with voice control, but no success yet as Google Home does not recognize the scenes from Tyua/Smart Life well.
Google Team, please address this and if there are any in this community with a nice work around or perhaps even a solution, I would be grateful.

Hey SmartLiving,

Thanks for reaching out — let's check this out.

A quick question: what's the exact command you've used and what's the response of your Google Home?

Give these steps a try:

  • Make sure your devices are within 15-20 feet of your router.
  • Reboot your smart devices, Google Home and router to refresh the connection.
  • Uninstall and reinstall your Google Home app.
  • Say the voice command, “Hey Google, sync all devices."
  • Rename your devices.
  • If all fails, try resetting your Google Home.

Looking forward to your response.

Best,

Alex

Sorry, but I already tried all this. The fact is that they worked fine for a long time but after an update, the controls were disappeared from Google Home. I have found a work-around to use voice commands, so settings and coverage work fine, but it would be "prettier" if the controls would show also in Google Home, so I wouldn't need such work-around (activating a scene in Smart-life from Google Home Assistant).
But thanks for taking the time to reply.

Hi,

I'm located in France. I have exactly the same issue. Voice controls are ok for open and close, but not for stop. Also, before when I was saying "open/close all curtains" it was working fine. Now the Google Nest device is just saying that the device is not configured. Therefore, I checked everything. I even re installed everything (switches, Google home devices, Tuyau smart application and Google Home application). Nothing worked.

Hey Supercoco,

That certainly hasn't been easy for you, have you tried the steps above? Also, do you have other smart device other than Tuya devices? If so, are you getting the same response in controlling them?

Best,

Alex

Hi Alex,

I did everything except the Sync command.

I'll do that tonight when I'll get back from work. My curtains switches are only from Tuya however I own other smart switches (regular ones with only on/off) from other vendors such as "efamilly cloud" and they work fine.

Best.

Hi,

I just did the sync and nothing changed. Then I did an additional reset of my nest hub... Nothing changed.

I tried the voice commands ainsi I notice that the Switch options displayed on the screen has only 2 options (play/triangle and stop/square) whereas it should have 3 option like in Tuya (forward and pause and backward).

Additionally I forgot to tell Yous earlier that the Nest hubs (I have 2 of them + a smart speaker with Google assistant) are all saying that they cannot connect to (Samsung) SmartThings application anymore.

All those events came nearly at the same Time.

Kind regards

Hey Supercoco,

Thanks for the information. Have you tried contacting Tuya support? Just to check if there's some changes on their integration to smart speakers like Google Home.

Hi, I'm having the same problems. Voice commands over Smart Life curtain switches using Google Assistant causes the response that the device is not configured. Of course they are there. My devices are made by LoraTap, integrated in Tuya IoT.

Those causes problems in Home Assistant too because they don not work directly using Tuya Integration because of device class "qt", and I make them work using LocalTuys integration.

I lost Google Home control over them maybe two weeks ago.

Hi

Yes I used exactly this page/form.

Additionally I'd like toi inform you that about 3 days ago my Google Nest hubs are not able to control my Sony Android TV anymore.

When I say (natively in french) "ok Google Switch on the TV" I get the answer (in french) "excuse me but I don't know what device 'the TV' you want to switch on".

This is weird because I perfectly see my TV in the Google home app on my smartphone. If I manually Switch on my TV, I immediately see ira status changing in the app. I can even control the speaker.

Honnestly I investied a lot of Money in Google echosystem but it getting worst and worst everyday. So disapointing... 😞

Should I add that I also that I owned the Pixel 5 and nos I own the Pixel 6 ?

Really, I tristes Google but...

The issue we have is with curtains smart switches (nothing to do with smart lights...). I own 5 of them. I'm facing the same issue with all of them. manufacturer is Zemismart. Firmware is V1.0.7.

Router is a Xiaomi AX1800. Fyi, I also

tested with the router provided by my ISP ans the issue is the same. All my devices are connected in 2.4Ghz.

My TV is a Sony Bravia 4K UR3 build BRAVIA_UR3_EU-user 9 PTT1.190515.001.S105 650761 release-keys

Core version is 4.9.125

Lastest security update: 1st of July 2021

Just for the other users information, After filling in the form, Alex just advised to deal with Tuya. Still no clue about what is going on with my Bravia Android TV.

Hey folks,

SmartLiving Thanks for that, hoping that helps other users.

Ifilgud Have you tried the steps and workaround provided by SmartLiving? Also, since it's an integration between Tuya Smart life, try coordinating with them since the number of actions that Tuya devices support using the Google Assistant is controlled by Tuya.

Alex

Same, I sent the request but no answer yet.

I tried to unlink Smart Life account but same result. I guess its something they have changed in their side and Google might need to update their part.

I've discovered that I can control the curtains but saying incorrect verbs. I'm spanish so the proper actions for blind motors have always been "Sube", "Baja", "Abre" or "Cierra", meaning Raise, Lower, Open or Close. Using those verbs the assistant says that it does not recognize de device, but saying "Enciende" or "Apaga", meaning Turn on/off, it works. Turn on means Open and Turn off means Close.

Something similar happens with the television, a Bravia Android TV. If I say "shutdown living room tv" in spanish it says that I must identify the device, but if i say the TV model (KD-49XF9005) it works, and as you can imagine, its quite slow and ridiculous to say the tv model (which is the name in Google Home) 😄

I can rename the device, but the problem is that something has changed in the Assistant because it no longer understand verbs that understood previously and it does not deduct device name based on location like it did before.

Hi Azarco,

It IS not only a feedback but a formal request for a fix. At least for the Android TV issue, Google needs to fix it.

For both issues (Android TV &curtains switches) you need to realise that the level of service you delivrer is decreasing.

Please revert back with a long terme solution.

Thank you

Hi Alex,

Any news for our Android TV issue ? I really think that all these issues (Android TV and smart curtains switches) that happened at the same time are not just coïncidence as, in both cases, thé voice commands are misunderstood even Iron the user side.

Please revert back.

Best regards.

Same exact problem here. My Tuya blinds suddenly stopped working on Google Home — it just responds "this device hasn't been set up yet" over and over again. Reconnected the account multiple times. Huge inconvenience.

Ifilgud
Community Member

Try what I discovered. Use different verbs, use them like light bulbs or sockets, saying Turn On or Off. It works for me

efstajas
Community Member

Thank you! That does actually work, but my setup relies on commands like "open the blinds to 20%" to let some light in in the morning, so it's still a big regression of functionality.

Ifilgud
Community Member

Ah, true, that is a problem yes. Mine does not support percentages so for me it's not a problem. To open to % I use Home Assistant, which calibrates them by time

efstajas
Community Member

Right, in my case, Tuya itself is supposed to do the time-based calibration. I'm probably going to do a workaround where I program my good morning routine in Home Assistant instead and just trigger it from the Google Home, rather than interacting with the blinds directly via Assistant. Such a shame that perfectly good functionality that people have been relying on for many months just suddenly breaks like this…

I've tried that but the fact that the "pause" fonction does not seem to be supported anymore is really annoying cause my setup includes that command.

Its just a temporary and partial solution, that at least lets you open or close the blinds by voice, but Google should fix it yes
