Unable to send voice commands to old Google Chromecast Audio

Hi everyone,

I've been experiencing some frustrating issues with my old Google Chromecast Audio over the past couple of weeks, and I'm hoping someone here might have some troubleshooting advice.

After the recent problems Google had with Chromecast Audio, I’ve noticed that I can no longer control my Chromecast Audio using voice commands from my Google Assistant speakers or displays. Everything seems to be set up correctly, and there are no error messages, but it just doesn’t work.

Here’s what’s happening:

  • When I ask my Google Assistant speakers or displays to play music on my Chromecast Audio, they respond with “Playing music,” but nothing actually happens.

  • As a workaround, I can play music on the current device and then tell Google to play it on the Chromecast Audio speaker, which works. However, once it’s playing, I lose all voice control. Commands like volume up/down, stop, or next song don’t work at all.

  • Interestingly, I can still control everything using the phone buttons, but voice commands are completely unresponsive.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

  • Factory reset of the Chromecast Audio: It connects fine but doesn’t play the sound during setup.

  • Casting directly from apps: This works fine, but again, no voice control.

I’m looking for any additional troubleshooting steps or advice to resolve this issue. Has anyone else experienced something similar? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

I've been playing at Elbow River Casino CA for a few months now and I'm very satisfied. The casino offers a lot of interesting games, and bonuses really help to increase the chances of winning. The platform is stable and the payouts are always fast.

Hi MarkusWilliams,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I understand your Chromecast device isn't responding to voice commands from your Google Nest speakers and displays. Specifically, while it plays music on the Chromecast Audio speaker, you lose voice control for volume, stopping, or skipping songs. I appreciate you've already tried factory resetting and casting directly from apps. I know it's frustrating when voice commands don't work on your device as expected. I'm here to help! To gather some more details, I'd like to ask the following questions:

  • What's your Chromecast device model? Please check out the following link for your reference: Chromecast and Google TV Streamer specifications
  • Are your speakers and displays set up on the same home as your Chromecast device?
  • What are your Google Nest speakers and display models? Stop by checking the specifications on this link: Google Nest and Home device specifications
  • When you say 'Ok Google' or 'Hey Google,' do the LED dots on your Google Nest speaker or display spin or blink?

I'll look forward to your response.

Best regards,
Juan

Hi Juan, I have the same issue as Markus.

I have a Chromecast Audio connected to my stereo amplifier and a Google Nest Hub. They are connected to the same home. Until a few weeks ago I could use voice commands to play music on the Chromecast Audio this no longer works. The Hub acknowledges the command with "Sure, music from Spotify, playing on stereo" but it does not play.
I can cast music to the CA from spotify okay. I can use voice commands to play music on the Hub and I can then use the screen on the Hub to choose the CA as the output device and that works too.

I've tried resetting everything, unlinking and relinking the spotify account, etc. Nothing helps.

I have the same behavior.. my neighbor does too.  Manual casting now works from selected speaker on display or in Spotify app.  But voice controls are DOA to the Chromecast Audio or Chromecast Ultra

We were able to verify that removing the Chromecast audio as the default speaker from any other casting devices allowed this functionality to work again

My brother and I both live in Canada and usually try new slot sites together — kind of a weird tradition. He sent me the link to Casino Niagara and told me to give it five minutes. Ended up spending two hours testing different games. There’s a solid mix here — jackpot slots, high-volatility ones, and even some branded titles. I’ve had no payout issues so far, and the gameplay feels fair. We both still play here, especially on weekends.
