If you have a Nest Aware subscription, and your Nest Hub Max is in the same "home" or "structure" as your subscription, and you have set up the built-in Nest Cam in the Google Nest app, your device should record video when the camera is turned on.
If you go to Settings in the Google Nest app for the Nest Cam that is built into your Nest Hub Max and select "Nest Aware", it should show either Nest Aware or Nest Aware Plus as "Active", depending on your subscription. And your history should be accessible in the Google Nest app. That's how ours shows.
