Nest CAM on different Wi-Fi

Hi,

I’m aware that I can’t use nest aware on a second home but… I’m having a horse stable an garage outside of my Wi-Fi coverage. Can I use an LTE router to create a connect the cameras to, and the still use the same home/nest aware?

@Henrik_Horup

A Nest Aware subscription covers all of the cameras in the same Google Nest "home/structure", and a Google Nest "home/structure" cannot span more than one Wi-Fi network.  So, if you are creating a second Wi-Fi network for your horse stable, then the answer would be "no".

Hi everyone,

@Henrik_Horup, thanks for reaching out here in the Community. If you're planning to install multiple Nest Cameras in your horse stable and want to connect it to a separate Wi-Fi router, you can do so. You may add it in the same home structure where your other Nest Cameras that are connected to your home Wi-Fi network are added.

I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer.

Best,

Emerson

So just so I just understand it correctly. It can also use the same nest aware subscription?

Hi Henrik_Horup,

Yes you're right. To learn more, you may visit our public article about "What you get with a Nest Aware subscription". Let us know if you have more questions in mind.

I am skeptical that you can have a Google Nest "home/structure" that can span more than one Wi-Fi network. I've seen several posts in this forum from customers reporting that it doesn't work. Furthermore, when installing new Google Nest devices, the install process tries to obtain the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password from a joining device/assisting device--an already-installed Google Nest device in the same Google Nest "home/structure". How will that work when you're trying to install additional cameras on a different Wi-Fi network?

Hi everyone,

Good question, @MplsCustomer. For the Nest Cam (outdoor or indoor, battery) and Nest Cam with Floodlight (wired), you'll need to switch to your desired Wi-Fi network on your phone before setting up the Nest Cam.

For other types of Nest cameras, you'll need to create a new home structure with a different Wi-Fi network.

If you have already set up everything, you can update the network on the Nest app and Google Home app. To learn more, you may visit our public article about Change camera and doorbell Wi-Fi network.

Thanks for the help here, Emerson.

Cheers,
