Batteries draining quickly

I am using the recommended energizer ultimate lithium batteries but they are draining very quickly.  Every 2 months or so.  I hear others get over a year.  I’ve seen similar posts but has anyone gotten a good answer on this?  About to go buy a good old fashioned one at this point because this is getting a little ridiculous

I bought these on Amazon and they seem to work for a while. I agree that I don't like spending all that money and you can't even buy rechargeable ones according to other posts I've seen here. Google should have thought of this.

This is a defect of the product. So many ppl have issues with Protect detectors, Inc me, as they start to drain batteries super quick, Google don't have an answer except buy a new one. The warranty checker doesn't work. There really should be a class action law suit. My advice is buy something else.

Hi All, not sure if anyone mentioned this yet. But it's probably not the batteries. Question, did you check them with a Volt meter? To confirm the batteries are in fact draining? I ask because I ran into this issue a few months back. I have 2 units in my house. And they lasted 3-4 years on the original batteries. However, 1 of the 2 units. Says its low every month or 2. What I found out is that the unit get dirty. Meaning if you take off the bottom cover (4 screws) you'll see a round, silver disk. You'll notice there are tiny holes around the entire circumference.  Apparrently, inside that disk, dust etc collects. This read on the unit as a battery issue. Once you clean it it should work normally.  BUT, here's the issue. Cleaning it is difficult. Meaning if you are not super, super careful. You'll break the unit all together.  Sooo, if that does happen, you can buy the silver disks separately online. I don't have the info handy but I can post here later if anyone needs me too. If your handy, meaning you can sodor etc you'll have no problem installing a new one.  Again, I didn't read thru all of the remarks so I apologize if this info was already given out.

AS A SIDE NOTE: With Nest canceling their app. And googles home app doesn't do everything (like set the Nest Alarm) thru the app. It may just be time to swap everything out. There are a lot of options out there. It's a shame Google can't get this right.  Thanks Y'all

Hey everyone,

@CrystalC, thanks for reaching out to the Community. I wanted to check if you still need help with Nest Protect. Have you had a chance to try Stevemann113’s suggestion above? If yes, how was it?

Also, a few more questions: do you have a wired or battery-powered Nest Protect? What is the software version of the device? To check, go to the Nest app > Device Settings > Technical Info > Software.

Battery life varies greatly depending on usage: how many times Nest Protect detects smoke or carbon monoxide (CO) and sounds the alarm, how often Path light turns on, where the Nest Protect is placed in the home, etc.

Here are some things you can try to extend the battery life:

Let me know if you have any questions.

I appreciate the help, Stevemann113.

Best,

Lance
