Battery problem with Nest smoke alarm 06A

The smoke alarm 06A shows the batteries need replacement every few weeks. When I test the batteries, one is completely discharged, but the other five are fully charged. I have another identical unit that has gone a couple of years without needing battery replacement. I have always used Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries. I have read many complaints about short battery life, but most didn't test their batteries. I believe the unit has been wired wrong. It runs off of one battery until that battery is exhausted, then wails at you in the middle of the night - never during the day.. I replace just the one battery, and I'm good for another few weeks. I sure do wish Nest would own up to the problem.

Is the unit battery only, or wired + battery?  Is it always the same battery that is being discharged?  What does the app say under Technical>Battery Life?  Is the unit near End of Life, check under Technical.

Hello tlavin1,

Thank you so much for posting in this community. I understand you may be encountering difficulties with your Nest Protect because the batteries are losing charge very quickly. Don't worry, I'm here to help you.

  • Even though you're using recommended Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries, try replacing all the batteries again, ensuring none are old, used previously in your smoke alarm, or from a different pack.
  • Try to perform a factory reset on your smoke alarm. Hold down the center button for about 10 seconds. This will erase its current settings. Once reset, open the Nest app and remove the smoke alarm from your device list. Then, you can pair it again with the app, following the setup instructions.

For additional information, you can consult this article: Replace Nest Protect's batteries.

Let me know if this information helps, and keep me updated.

Best regards
