Nest Protect 2nd gen.

After about 20 hours of trying everything , I've decided this is my last hope. I bought 3 nest protect (battery only), I can get one to connect, the other 2 always fail. Varies error codes-p013(4.7)-p018(0.65)-p021(6021)-p024(4.7)-p030. I split my wi-fi, reset the router, factory reset devices multiple times, uninstalled the app, cycled phone power, reinstalled app, set up new home on app. The only thing that worked was setting up three homes and putting each device on its own.  anything I'm missing? or is it time to return them before it's too late????????

This describes my situation exactly.

I have one older Nest and two new Nests. I can only connect to one at a time, and then only once.  If I try to connect to the already-added Nest, I get a variety of error codes (some of them >p023, which is the last listed one on the help site -- how are there unlisted error codes??). I've tried starting with either the old or the new ones, I've tried factory resets. I'm on a 2G wifi setting. This is incredibly frustrating, and I'm also ready to return them.

Do you have any other google devices like doorbell or cameras?

Which them off as they act like the parent in the mesh. Then try setting up the smoke alarms again

No, I have Ring, and Arlo, which are not google. Thank you for the tip, tho

Hello folks,

@SRL88 and @khv03 thanks for reaching out here in the Community and for sharing with us the steps you've done. Let's see what we can do here. Like what dwaindigital is asking, do you have other Nest devices connected on the same Wi-Fi network that would act as an assisting device? (Ex. Nest Cameras, Nest Thermostat, etc.). If yes, then I would suggest you to start over with the set up of your Nest Protects while near to that assisting device.

Give these steps a try:

  • Remove your Nest Protects from your Nest app.
  • Gather all of your Nest Protects near your router and to the assisting device and place them on a table.
  • Reset all of your Nest Protects to the factory default.
  • While setting up your Nest Protects they should have a pulsing blue light. Indicating that they are ready to be set up. Also, the assisting device should be turned on.

Remember: The Nest Protects can only connect to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network and can only be set up through the Nest app.

I appreciate your response, dwaindigital.

Regards,

Emerson

I have done all the suggested steps multiple times. I have removed the 5G option from the phone with the Nest app on it (and removed/reinstalled the app, and restarted the phone, and reset all the Nests, and rebooted the router). I sat 6 inches from the router instead of 10 feet. Error code p.006.

I do not have any other Nest devices, nor am I inclined to get any at this rate. My house doesn't have any working smoke alarms. If I go and buy standard ones to replace these Nest Protects, I'm not coming back to the Google product anytime soon.

I did all that, no other google products as far as I'm aware. I have them all set up individually, but will not mesh together.

Hi everyone,

We appreciate all of the information you've shared and this is not the experience we want you to have. I know you did a lot of troubleshooting to resolve this issue. There are still some steps that you can do to pair your Nest Protect back to the Nest App. Just a reminder, the Nest Protect can only connect to the 2.4Ghz bandwidth of the internet and can only be set up to the Nest app.

Give these steps a try:

  • When setting up multiple Nest Protects they should be placed on a table near your Wifi router.
  • Perform a reset to factory default.
  • While pairing they should have a blue light pulsing, indicating that they are ready to be set up. If not, just press it one time.

I appreciate the help, dwaindigital.

Best,

Emerson

Hello folks,

I'm dropping by to ensure that everything is covered here. How's it going with your Nest Protect? Were you able to read the information and check the link I shared above? Also, were you able to perform the steps I’m suggesting? We'd be glad to hear from you.

did all that, haven't messed with them since my last post. I just put them up and hope that  they work, spending as many hours as I did already trying to get them to work is ********. I'll probably end up trying one more time sooner or later, then throwing them in the trash

I am struggling the same issue during a "Nest protect" setup. In the very last step 'adding to nest-account' , it fails with error code P009(0.80) . I have sniffed the trafic between the Nest Protect and Nest Servers. For sure there is no wifi/router/firewall issue. The nest protect starts communicating to clients3.google.com, then sends a packet with Nest-Protect's serialnumber and access-code to trouter-eu.production.nest.com. It does the same towards squeakydoor.nest.com.   Both servers have ACKnowledged the received package, but don't give any respons.  It seems they discard the request. I have removed a Nest-Thermostat and tried to add the Nest-Protect. NoGo. I rejoined the Nest-Thermostat without issues. I think google has blacklisted my Nest-Protect. Weird, because the back indicates it should be replaced no sooner than 2027.

I just changed ISP to ATT and am able to set up the Thermostat and Doorbell, but all 3 of the Nest Protects I am unable to with the same error, P009(0.80). All 3 Nest Protects have been factory reset (multiple times now). I have tried configuring my router to allow Ports 11095 & 53. I verified my router has both 5 & 2.4 GHz frequencies available. I have removed all my Nest devices and tried adding the Nest Protect first. I even tried connecting via the Guest Network, which is only a 2.4 GHz frequency WAN. Nothing changes and I ALWAYS get the same error code, P009(0.80).

same here.... still the same crap (and no updated firmware from Google) and its been over an month since your last message.

As most in this thread have said.  I to have 3x nest protects and keep running into the error P009(.80) as its trying to add it to my account.  I get through the entire setup process and then it errors out.  Not sure what else to do at this point.  I have the thermostat, 2x outdoor cameras, 1x indoor, and the nest door bell.  Everything else works fine.  Love my nest products but there are a few times with them such as this which is maddening trying to get through.

I am not sure if you have corrected this or not. I was able to get my protects to join my network from a suggestion from a reply on this board. Sorry not sure who it was, but my problem was my nest hello. Remove that from your account and then add your nest protects. I was able to add both my gen 1 and gen2 protects. Once you get them connected reconnect your nest hello.  All is happy with the world for now.

I have tried this work around and it does not work for me.  I still get the same error when I remove the nest doorbell and reset the NP and then try to re add it.  This is unacceptable. We go through all these steps and jump through these hoops AND IT STILL DOES NOT WORK... for an expensive product.   Google its time for a real update, not just some boilerplate regurgitated support response.  What's the ETA on the updated firmware...  This has gone on for way too long.
