Nest Protect Gen 2: 4 wired, 2 battery

I purchased 4 NP Wired and 2 battery.  I had to order all wired 1 at a time from the Google Store (only source of wired) and my son ordered one for me.  I have 2008 smoke alrams from when the house was new. 3 do not work.  Today I thought I would get them all in the app as my son will put them up early Saturday.  It all went fine except one alerts as to the sensor needing to be replaced.  Google support tells how to clean it.  The problem starts when it says unscrew the screws and take the back off.  The screws unscrew, but do not come out, even with a magnetic screwdriver tip.  That is fine --it seems intended.  But getting the back off??? Does that mean taking the top plate off? There is no screwdriver slot and it is tight.  AND a complaint.  For 149 each I would THINK you would get a device that that is at least 2024, not Feb. 2023.  Google should discount for the TWO YEARS that these sat somewhere on a shelf and reduces the longevity to 80% of what I paid for.  They all connected to my Nest App.  Taking the batteries out of the one seems to have stopped the incessant (and loud which is good) alert that the sensor failed.

These are new in box. There is no reason you should have to clean them to solve a problem. There are tons of reports of people getting "old" new detectors no matter where purchased.  I know it's a hassle, having just installed all 6 of them, but your best bet may be to get refunds for all of them and choose an alternate brand smart detector.

Or support may chime in and ask you to fill out a form, where they may replace the failed detector for you. As far as discounting the "older" ones, Google has been very quiet in here. So idk if they'll do that or not. 

The detectors should last 7-10 years from manufacture date, but this version of detector has been on the market for almost a decade now. Google only has these detectors available in a beta version of Google Home, or the legacy Nest app with minimal other development or communication to customers. 

They also don't acknowledge or address known issues, such as overheating/burning batteries, false alarms, failure to alarm, failure to work with Nest app, including notifications, etc. 

I am just another customer who has had a share of issues and has seen what others have reported. Just want to give you a full set of information, so you can make an informed decision.
