Protect Wired vs battery

TangentAndy

I have just purchased three wired second GEN protects for my home. I’ve come to learn that of the two previously wired smoke alarms. Only one wiring works. The third is not wired at all. Now looking at the app. I have installed all three… and now I am wondering if I should have purchased and installed the battery version instead of the wired version.  Looking at the app, it is telling now me that they are not powered. I just want to be sure that I haven’t purchased the wrong devices… Is there any settings adjustments I need to be making?

The wired version of the Nest Protects is not designed to be used without the wired power connection. There are only three batteries in them, which are there just to keep the detector working for a short time while the power is out.

Typically smoke detectors are daisy-chained together, so check and see if a wire was not connected to the working device.

If you still can't get power to it, then it is best to install the battery version and not a wired version.
