is there a way to turn off Nest Protect.
NOT silence.
we will be doing some work in the house that will have some smoke, and want to avoid having to 'silence' the units with the app.
would like the ability to turn off the units for a few hours.
thank you

To comply with standards there isn't a way to do that.
If you have the battery model, you could remove the batteries temporarily.
if you have the wired model, you could disconnect the wires or factory reset the unit temporarily.

Wired model has battery backup. Best bet is to take the detector down, out of the space where you'll be working, put it back when done / leaving the room for the day.
