I don't think Nest Protect gen 1 or gen 2 supports WPA3.

I created a thread about it back in 2020 on the old forum, but the old forum is now closed down. So here is a cached version:

There is no mention of WPA3 in the specifications:

Nor the firmware update change log:

The fact that Google Wifi and Nest Wifi can optionally enable WPA3, but without disabling WPA2, is also an indication that other Nest products don't neccessarily work well (or at all) with WPA3 only, I'd say.

I saw that you opened a thread about Nest thermostat as well. Does not seem it supports WPA3 either. Here are some relevant threads.

Related threads other places:

I have 4x Nest Protect 2nd gen, with 2x Nest Wifi router with WPA3 enabled. It works well, the protects probably connet using WPA2 (I have no way of seeing it in the Google Home or Nest apps). Whilst devices that supports WPA3, like my S21 and laptop with Intel AX200 WLAN card, chooses WPA3 by default.

I don't work for Google.

I've come to the assumption Google home mini, my nest smoke alarms and nest thermostat only support wpa2. The latest unifi controller also seems to have fixed a bug when wpa2 and wpa3 both enabled together. I think I'm all good.
