1780-361 White Rogers Compatibility

msl76
Community Member

Hello. I purchased a Nest Learning Thermostat and I ran the the installation set up and was informed that my system is not compatible. I saw another post where a user has the same White Rogers thermostat and they were informed that their system is compatible. Their wiring differs from my set up, so I just want to see if mine is compatible as well.

C G O Y (at the bottom)

RO B RH W (along the side)

Thanks in advance!

@msl76

Your current thermostat is compatible with any of the Nest thermostats.

Wiring would be like this,

Green - G to G

Yellow - Y to Y1 or Y

White - W to W1 or W

Red - R to Rc or R (jumper to RC not needed)

The "or" is for the Google Nest Thermostats wiring.

I see a blue wire that is not in use, and I strongly recommend you use it to create a C wire between the thermostat and the furnace. Just find the C terminal in the furnace, connect the blue wire to it, and then connect it to the C terminal on the thermostat.

@Patrick_Caezza , before you tell an homeowner “Just find the C terminal in the furnace, connect the blue wire to it, and then connect it to the C terminal…” make sure you add the safety notes. TURN OFF THE POWER BEFORE OPENING YOUR FURNACE. Your lack of safety is likely going to get a homeowner electrocuted.

The easiest way to check compatibility is to use the Google Nest Compatibility checker locate at
