So, how long will Google support any new versions of thermostat?  How often will users need to fork out another $200 for the next thermostat?

Exactly!  I replaced both of my Nest's with Wyze thermostats...These do everything a Nest does and for $75!

Google will continue to EOL 4 year old devices and steal another $200 from you by requiring you to replace perfectly good thermostats!
