$250 P. O. S.

$250 P. O. S.

Nest thermostat suddenly decided it can no longer connect to WiFi, despite the fact NOTHING has changed in my network, and connectivity via laptop and phone, at precisely the same location, is EXCELLENT.

Tried all "troubleshooting" steps, still zero.

Not only does it not detect my network, it misses 30 other neighbor WiFi networks as well.

It's a very expensive PAPERWEIGHT.

Yup, right there with you.  My Google Nest 3rd Gen Thermostat decided on its own to set my system to blow only HOT air when I needed the A/C.  Performed a reset multiple times and the troubleshooting steps with Google support.  My thermostat was just out of warranty.  Can you believe the solution given was to buy a new one!  I requested a Google store credit for the defective one.  That was denied.  So, my solution was to switch to an Ecobee Premium thermostat.  Clearly, my issue was a factory defect as others have had the same problem.  Google simply will not stand behind their product.  Worse, they do not seem to care about retaining customers.  When asked, I do not recommend Google thermostats.

Hi folks,

@stuecklen, thanks for reaching out to us, and I'm sorry to hear about the situation. Kindly list down all the steps you did in trying to resolve this matter. Also, a few questions:

  1. How far away is the thermostat from the router?
  2. Are there devices or appliances (such as baby monitors, microwaves, cordless phones, etc.) near the thermostat?
  3. Are you trying to connect to the 2.4 GHz or the 5 GHz network?
  4. What’s the make and model of your router?
  5. Is there any message or code that appears on the thermostat display when you go to its Settings > Network?

Thank you, I will start a new thread. I am curious as to how many of us have had the same issue as I have with the 3rd generation nest learning thermostat.

what disappoints me the most is Google giving me the solution of buying a new thermostat.  Clearly, my thermostat has some type of factory or design defect.  It was working fine and then the next moment it wasn’t.  There was no power problems or lightning storm or anything that would cause the failure.  The device simply stopped activating the reversing valve on the heat pump.  The wiring is correct, and changing the software settings for the O/B wire did not work.

I really want Google to improve their products and hoped that Google would send a postage paid box asking for my old thermostat back so that they could investigate.  Then I would expect Google to provide at the very least a Store, credit in exchange.

Instead, Google does not want to figure out what is wrong with the hardware version of my thermostat. The answer of go buy a new one is absurd.
