3rd gen 4th gen Nests App

My house has two HVAC units, one downstairs and one up. I have a 4th gen Nest downstairs and a 3rd gen upstairs. I'm having difficulty getting the two thermostats set up on the Google Home app, particularly the 3rd gen is requiring i use the Nest app to set schedules or program the device. Additionally I cannot get the presence sensing aspects of either device to work together (or at all).

I would like the 4th gen to detect when I'm home through movement (not my phone) and set both devices to "home" mode. So far, every time I try to make that change, the Google Home app says "unable to save settings".

Is this just a situation where the 3rd gen and 4th gen Nest thermostats are not compliant with each other?

Hi @Kepdogg,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble getting your two Nest Learning Thermostats, 3rd and 4th generation, to work together in the Google Home app, especially since you're unable to get unified presence sensing to function in Home & Away routines. I'm happy to share more information with you.

Home & Away Routines are limited to using location detection from only one app at a time (either Google Home or Nest). While both thermostats can be viewed in the Google Home app, enabling location sharing for presence detection in one app will automatically disable it in the other.

Since you've been experiencing issues with Home & Away not working as expected, we recommend manually changing the Home & Away status in each app for now. Our team is aware of this issue and is actively investigating it. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.

To manually activate the Home & Away feature, please follow the steps below:

In the Nest app:

  1. Open the Nest app on your phone, tablet, or computer.
  2. If you have multiple homes, select the one you wish to control.
  3. Tap the Home icon.
  4. Select Home or Away to change your home's mode.

In the Google Home App:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Favorites.
  3. At the top of the screen, tap your home's name.
  4. Then, select Home or Away to change your home's mode.

Keep me posted if you have any other questions.

Best regards,

Derick.

I am having the same problem with 3 Nest Learning Thermostats (4th Generation) in my home.

Anytime I attempt to enable presence sensing with any of the thermostats, I get the error message "Unable to save settings"

I'm tempted to box up the thermostats and return them.

Please advise.

I have 4 of the nest thermostats installed in our chuch.  There are 4 of these thermostats installed in our sactuary and I noticed that there were settings that were not working.  I decided to reset them and configure them from scratch.  While trying to set the thermostats up, I was trying to configure the presence sensing feature on them and every time, I would try to save this settings, I would receive "unable to save settings".  I also have 4 of these thermostats in our fellowship hall and noticed I would get the same message when I would try to disable this feature.  Not sure what is going on with the app.  I tried to log onto the computer for these settings, but I can not see my thermostats on the computer.  Does anyone have any suggestions on this.
