AC Not Turning Off

RobR1

New problem started after 2 years. Thermostat AC is set to 70. Room easily cools to 70 but then it stays on and runs continuously at 70 and AC never turns off all night.  Wasting a ton of energy.

Hi RobR1,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry for the delay and for the trouble this has caused you. A few questions: what type of Nest Thermostat do you have? You can visit this link to check what type of thermostat you have. Do you see any messages or codes on your thermostat or in the app? Checking your Nest Thermostat Energy History might help you see what your thermostat was doing previously. You can visit this support article on how to check Energy History in the thermostat or in the Nest app.

Best,

Jenelyn

Hi Jenelyn,

Sorry for my delay.

I have a Nest Learning Thermometer.

When I set temp to 70, it eventually gets to 70 and then cycles off and on during night. If I try to set temp to be 68, it just stays on without ever reaching 68. I noticed the temp hits 70 quicker if I shut our bedroom door. I’m thinking the heat pump unit may just be unable to cool the room to 68 when it’s so hot outside. The heat pump has no error lights on, so it’s working correctly.

Here are the history data showing some nights it never hits the set temp.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Robert
