AC condenser shuts off for a second or two occasionally

I have a Nest learning stat that I have noticed on several occasions seems to not send a cooling signal to the AC condenser for a second or two during a cooling operation and then immediately restore the signal.

It does not happen every cycle, in fact, it seems to rarely happen. Unless you are paying attention you will not even notice it.

I have checked all connections at Tstat, furnace control board, and AC condenser, as well as checked ohmic value of AC contactor. All are good.

I believe it has to be a T-stat issue and it can't be doing my cooling equipment any good. I am short of solutions other than scrapping my Nest

That's ironic because I have the same thing happening with my fan.  It seems to pause arbitrarily for about 1/2 second and restart.  I have a feeling it is also a problem with my Nest.

Hi folks,

@drriet and @Therealduke, thanks for reaching out. I'd like to take a closer look at it. A few questions: in what states are you located? Do you have a schedule created? Do you have a C wire? Please provide your Nest thermostat's power readout.

You can follow the guide below:

  1. Go to your thermostat Quick View menu.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Look for Technical Info.
  4. Select Power.

Also, please check your thermostat Energy History. It might help you see what your thermostat was doing previously.

Best,

Jenelyn

Hi Therealduke,

Thanks for providing the information above. Your Nest Thermostat's power readings are totally fine. It looks like your thermostat is receiving sufficient power. Please check your thermostat's Energy History. Also, try to restart your thermostat by going to the Settings > Reset > Restart. After that, continue monitoring your system's behavior.

Thanks,

Jenelyn

Hi there,

Checking your Nest Thermostat's Energy History might help you see what your thermostat was doing previously.

You can follow these guides:

Home app

  1. Open the Home app Google Home app.
  2. Tap your device's tile.
  3. Tap Energy dashboard Energy dashboard.
  4. Select Day, Week or Month.

Nest app

  1. Open the Nest app Nest app and tap the Nest thermostat icon on the home screen.
  2. Tap History Thermostat history icon.
  3. Your 10-day summary should show. Tap on any day to learn more details about your heating system's energy use.

Thermostat

  • To review your Energy History, in the Nest thermostat's Quick View menu, select History Thermostat history icon.
  • If you’re using a Nest Thermostat E, your Energy History should be in the Settings Nest settings icon and then History.

Regards,

Jenelyn
