Ac compressor won’t turn on

Bcheg
Community Member

These thermostats are a waste of money!!! Took the time to wire my thermostat up, get everything connected. Than the fan is the only thing that turns on. AC compressor is not working at all. Call professionals out and they told me to get rid of the nest thermostats. Put the old one back in and everything works perfectly fine. Even to be safe I replaced the AC compressor connector and the capacitor while I had it opened. Someone please tell me how these expensive thermostats are worth it? I want it to work so I can control temps when I am away, but when it’s 104 degrees outside and I have a new born the house can’t get as hot as it did today. Who can help with this problem?

Hi Bcheg,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your Nest Thermostat. I'd love to know more about this and I have a few questions:

  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  • How is your Nest Thermostat wired?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Edward

I have a Gen 2 nest learning thermostat. I have common, y1, W1, RH, and a G. I finally found a way to reset and the compressor turns on. But now the fan from the air handler won’t turn off. All of my eco settings are off in my app and the thermostat. Also my fan schedule is off. How do I get this fan to turn off?? I still have a green leaf at the bottom of my thermostat but again all my eco settings and my fan schedule are off.

Thanks,
Blake

Hi Bcheg,

Thanks for the response. You'll get the leaf icon when your thermostat is set to an energy-saving temperature. I'd love to know more about this. Could you check the power readings of your Nest Thermostat? You can see this information by going to Settings > Technical Info > Power.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi Bcheg,

Thanks for the response. The power readings looks good. To isolate the issue, could you try removing the G wire and check if the fan would stop? Please make sure that you turn off your breakers first before touching any wires to avoid damage on your system.

Thanks,

Edward

G wire does turn off the fan. I have checked power with my meter and everything has correct volts. I have tried multiple things to see where it’s coming from. But nothing works

Hi Bcheg,

Thanks for the update. To isolate the issue further, could you try swapping the G and the Y wire and check if your AC would run? Again, please make sure that your breakers are off.

Thanks,

Edward

Swapping them didn’t work neither. The fan turns off but doesn’t turn on when the AC compressor is on

I’m having the same issue. The compatibility check says my system should work but it is not turning the compressor on. Replaced nest with previous thermostat and had no problems. Please help with this issue.

I finally just returned it to Home Depot. Super disappointed in the lack of support from google.
I did charge it by plugging it in to my usb charger.
