Important: Before you reset your thermostat, write down the wiring information so you can easily enter your thermostat's wiring if needed. On your thermostat, go to Settings > Equipment. You might want to do this for other settings, such as system heating type, and safety temperature as well.

If you can't control it using the app anymore, you'll need to reset it using a computer.

  1. Connect the Nest Thermostat display via USB to a computer.

  2. Verify that the Nest Thermostat mounts (appears as an attached drive icon).
  • If the Nest drive will not mount: Restart the thermostat and the computer.
  • If the Nest drive still won't mount: Connect another device to the cable to see if it appears as an installed device.
  • If it doesn't appear, use a different cable/port/computer.

If the Nest drive is successfully showing up on your computer, can you see a technicalinfo.PLIST file? If you get this far let me know and I'll ask a community specialist to assist with next steps, as these can't be shared publicly in the community.

Once reset, check which model of thermostat you have to determine the correct setup steps:
How to tell which Nest thermostat you have - Google Nest Help

Nest Thermostat (2020), Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen)
Follow the setup steps: Get started with your Nest Thermostat - Google Nest Help

Setup these models using the Google Home app. The QR code and setup key are physically printed on the back of the thermostat for Nest Thermostat (2020) and will be displayed on screen for Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen).

Nest Thermostat E, Nest Learning Thermostat (1st, 2nd, 3rd gen)
Follow the setup steps: Add your Nest thermostat to the Nest app - Google Nest Help

Setup these models using the Nest app. The QR code and setup key are in the settings on the thermostat itself and are not printed on the device.
