I am trying to add a second thermostat and have been unable to. I’ve reset the thermostat several times. I made sure all devices are on the same WiFi .
Anyone have any suggestions. I’ve tried this for several days and very frustrated .
I have one already for my first floor installed on my app without problems.
My son can actually download the thermostat on a separate account and phone with no problems , however I am unable to add it the device to my app and continue to get an error message. Again, I have one already installed and want to add the one to ky second floor .

I have this same issue as have many others in other forums. The only answer seems to be you have to add a second home to your google home add, then you can add the second thermostat to that second home. It’s stupid, but that’s the only answer I’ve seen and only thing I’ve gotten to work. I will probably end up getting rid of the Nest thermostats as a result. Thanks for nothing google.

I don’t know how to add a second home for the second tstat, with only one google acct. It’s a great work around worth giving a try. Thanks for sharing.

Having the same issue

Connect all the nests in o a 2.4 ghz WiFi network and they can be in the same google home

How does one do this outside of the Google Home App?

I don't know that you can avoid using the google home app. What I can offer is what worked for me. I connected my iphone to our 2.4 ghz signal, then did a factory reset on each Nest thermostat and connected them using the normal process using the google home app. So despite the fact we have a google wifi mesh network in our house, I had to avoid that and force google thermostats to use my Xfinity 2.4 ghz network.

Thank you, Mrlcey... I appreciate the response. This issue should not be an issue... and I hate solving multi-billion dollar corporation's problems. Instead of trolling my google searches... would be nice if they trolled these discussions. Perhaps I was expected to call their expert at $350 to resolve, or get their hey google thingy... Hey. I know, whining.
Have a good day. I will likely use the other approach for now. Perhaps they will fix their glitch and I can add multiple devices to one network!!

Same issue. Needlessly frustrating. When I attempt to add the second thermostat, the app tries to "save me time" my connecting to an assisting device. There should be a simple way of adding a device manually... put in wifi net, password, done. If anyone from Google monitors these messages and is not using their unlimited leave-- Answer and resolve.

Agreed, this is stupid, here we are 8 months later and this is still a problem for many. I have wasted 4 or 5 hours trying to reconfigure my wifi router based on random things others have done to no avail. I spent $350 to get them installed because my new system was a special setup that required the pro ID to configure and this POS app keeps trying to use another nest device to configure itself. I don't have the option of resetting them as I can't access the pro configuration either. One would think after a few failures there would be a fallback option to skip using another device. What a complete engineering and product failure. Google needs to address this immediately as it is clearly flawed.

I had this issue and here is what support had me do
note this was for the nest thermostat with the touch ring on the outside and i am using an iphone
if you have to factory reset - make sure to take note of settings so you can recreate them.
There is no way this should be such a PITA but this did get me working and warm.

This is what worked for me and I was able to connect three Nests in one house.
1. Connect first thermostat to Nest APP.
2. Remove thermostat from Nest APP.
3. Connect second thermostat to Nest APP.
4. Connect original first thermostat to Nest APP.
5. Connect third thermostat to Nest App.
This took way too long to do, but they are all working now.

I am having exactly the same problem! Installed guest room tstat with app, no problem. Family room tstat would not be recognized by app even though on router, no problem. Deleted guest room, added family room, and app recognized..tried to add guest room from scratch, app wouldn’t recognize.
Can’t have more than two Nest tstats on the app. What good is it?

I have same problem here. I have three thermostats in one structure and can only add one to that structure. I have second structure I have cameras door bell smoke detectors and can not add a learning thermostat. I pay a monthy subscription to record all cameras. Ive wasted full days on phone with support no answer yet. Ive replaced thermostats and still connection error. What's up Google ??

I just stumbled across this reddit post and it actrfixed my problem. Clearing the WWN settings on my original nest from the reset menu forced it to generate a new key and then I was able to easily add it to the existing home. Must have be a bug or corrupt entry using existing key.

I tried this and it worked . I did have to wait for the new key to be generated but that was 7 min. I did reset the thermostat, but just the WWN. Both units are on the same network. I'm using a Android phone.
