Battery critically low message

MegH

Our nest thermometer is now giving a warning message that the battery is low.  It has only been in use since June.  Should I need to replace the battery this often or does it indicate a wiring or system problem?

What model of thermostat do you have? Nest Learning Thermostat, Nest Thermostat E, or the newest Nest Thermostat (2020?

Thank you,  Here is a copy of what I sent to davidking:

So sorry.  I have been away and just back in town.  I have a Nest that was purchased in 2020.  It is not a E or a Learning thermostat.  It has been turned off quite a bit as we have been traveling and don’t want leave the air conditioning on ( even set to a higher temperature).  Could that have caused the problem?  We also have two thermostats to replace the old ones that were in the house.  One is for heating and one is for air-conditioning.  Could that be an issue.  Not too hard to change the batteries but just want to make sure there is not an issue which is going to cause problems down the line.

Thank you for responding.

Hey MegH,

If you are running into your device not staying charged, there is a chance you may need to install a C wire or a Nest Power Connector to the device. Do you mind me asking if you know if you have a C wire installed already? Are you seeing any specific error codes on the device? Please let me know, so I can look into the issue further and ensure your device is staying charged.

Best regards,

Jake

Thanks for your continued follow-up.  I do not know if there was a C-wire issue or not as this was installed by the person we use for heating and air conditioning checks.   This particular thermostat runs our air conditioning so we currently have it turned off.   Please feel free to close the thread.  If we continue to have difficulty  next season I  will ask our HVAC person about the C wire and follow up as necessary.

Thank you again for the help.
