Best thermastat

I’m at my wits end my nest 3rd gen  thermostat has lost Wi-Fi connection after a change of router, I’ve tried all the fix’s on umpteen forums, I’ve spent hours searching the internet and lost count of resets and do this and do that, local hotspots didn’t work it doesn’t even find neighbours Wi-Fi’s like my other devices do, it’s like it’s blind to any Wi-Fi connection, I say all this and I’d had a gut full and gave up on it, because it was summer and didn’t really need it, but now going into autumn I could do with boosting my hot water by the gas boiler because my solar is not so efficient, so I’m back trying to get it to connect and going back though all the same fix’s and still there’s no response! The strange thing is I left it in searching mode every time I passed it or thought about it, then one day I came home after being out all day and it was showing a list of Wi-Fi ‘s, including mine, so I went thought set up with password and all like setting up when new, and it worked!! This was about a month ago following day it had lost connection, and hasn’t connected since so it has the ability to connect to my new router but has only done it once in about 3 months!! I’m sure  the thermostat is faulty and not anything I’m doing, the router is BT’s home hub and I’ve disabled the 5g because I’ve read the nest prefers 2.4, the previous router was BT the nest worked fine  when it was new, but I don’t think it’s router related because setting up a hotspot on my mobile didn’t help, and it doesn’t pull in any other wi-fi’s in the neighbourhood!

These can be a little temperamental at times, and it usually happens when you get interference from another item. You say new router, have you installed anything else new, like DECT phone, microwave or anything that may interfere? Sounds stupid, but you will be amazed what can interfer. I assume the router is in the same original  location, and not moved? The BT hub should be fine, and as you have disabled 5G and only using 2.4 you should have a connection.

How long have you had the stat, when did you purchase?

Should it connect, make sure your NOT connecting to an extender or access point, connect direct to the router.

You say reset, is that a full factory reset, or just a simple reset?

The stats do have a problem with the wifi chip, and if you have tried everything, well who knows.

Thanks for the reply, router was swapped like for like, so same location but I did think may be new router’s signal not so strong, even though they’re about 4 meters apart with one wall in line of sight, so invested in BT matching extenders and tried facing one another, but still nothing, no new appliances other than router, and yes tried factory reset twice, just looked up receipt and it was purchased 15th September 2022 so it’s literally 1 year old, proberly 11 months actual use wasn’t fitted straight away, no correct that 8 months taking in to account I’ve not used it in the last 3 months. I saw a guy on you tube who seemed to have the same problem and had his replaced, and was hinting there was a problem with the Wi-Fi in the device, but other than you saying similar I’ve not seen another post confirming this, and I have spent hours ( not joking) reading about nest connectivity, but I’m exhausted going over the same thing time and time again, and convinced the units faulty!

There have been issues with the Wi-Fi chip, so could well be that. You have done everything possible you say, so why waste anymore time.

I wouldn’t mess about anymore, just return to the shop and state your consumer rights. Your covered for about 5 years under those terms, look it up you could be surprised.

Sounds like the  Wi-Fi chip has failed, I’ve filled out a warrant claim form online  not heard anything back yet.

Forgive me for being blunt and to the point, but why waste time on here when your thermostat is just a year old? Take it back to the shop, and state it's faulty.

The other issue people do not understand with the 2 year warranty, once changed by Nest, your retail shop can wash their hands of the issue. Reason being, the item sold to you will not be the same item they sold. Does that make sense?

Yes please do, have filled out a warranty claim twice now and I’ve not had a reply, I purchased though Amazon who just point me to the online Google warranty claim page hence filling form out twice now.
