Hi Madge,

Yikes! I'm sorry to hear that your thermostat is still not working though has been charged for hours. Let me take a look at this for you. A few questions:

  1. Are you located in North America or Europe?
  2. What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  3. When did this first occur?
  4. What is the make and model of your heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment?
  5. Are the power breakers on, and do you receive power to your home?
  6. Is the thermostat's display seated properly?
  7. Are all the wires of your thermostat seated firmly in its terminals (with no loose or exposed wires)?
  8. Are the connector pins of the thermostat display bent?
  9. Are you using a micro-USB cable to charge the thermostat?
  10. Have you tried to charge the thermostat with a different micro-USB cable or a different adoptor?

I'll look forward to your response.

Best,

Zoe

Thank you so much for your reply as I’ve been so worried about not having heating and I am so reliant on my nest
I’m in Europe, uk, Shipston-on-stour,
CV36 4FD
I have 3rd gen learning nest and my combi-boiler is only 2years old
My nest thermostat is on a stand and on usb charge for the last 3 days but still blinking red!
I have normal power here as everything is working ias expected
I don’t have air con as that’s not something we usually have here domestically
Yes I have tried several different cables including ones that work and tested  charging other devices
If theees anything further you need to help
Me please let me know
I look forward to hearing from you

Hi there, thanks for the answers. Can you please try to take the display of the thermostat off the base and put it to charge for 90 minutes, directly with a micro-USB cable from a power socket?

Let me know how it goes.

I’ve tried this for longer than 90 mins now and sadly there is no change

Thanks for letting me know. Could you please confirm if at this moment, the thermostat is not responsive at all?

1. I live in California.

2. 3rd Generation

3. I started last month, October.

 4. Trane HVAC, Model #S9X2=XL85

5. Very good power connection

6. The thermostat is seated properly in the mounting wall

7. No loose wires or exposed wires

8. No bent connector wires.

9. yes, I tried using USB cable charger to charge it several times and charged it over night.

10. Yes I tried several cables to charge the Thermostat, I charged it overnight.

It’s seems like the thermostat is defective, not charging. I’m disappointed because I had just bought it less than a year.

kindly reach out to me on what I needed todo. The cold winter temperatures is here and I can not turn on the heater.

Hope-to hear from you soon.

  • Yes I’ve changed cables which I know work as the charge up the other devices

Madge

it appears to be that the power is going through as it blinks while connected with any cable used so this suggests to me that the device is faulty

Thanks for checking. To confirm, you took the display off the stand when charging it separately, leaving the ring that allows it to snap onto the stand with its micro USB cable attached to the stand, correct?

Did any message at all come up on the display when charging it separately or just the LED at the top came on occasionally?

To log a few more details:

1. Do you have more than one thermostat?
2. Is there a wiring report or error message on your thermostat and/or app?
3. Has there been any recent work done on your thermostat(s) or heating system?
4. Were there any power outages?
5. Were there any modifications to the internet configuration (for example: added extenders)?

Hello:  I’ve had similar issues.  I’ve charged via USB.  It charged for a bit but never a full charge.  Would only work for about half and hour.

I switch my other Nest (sure way to check if wiring or power issue), and it worked fine.  This has been going on for about 5 days.  And I would switch the nests depending where I was. I reset to factory setting.  I did everything and also couldn’t connect to Wi-Fi  due to battery being so low.  I tried to do everything before messaging this community.  I give up.

Hi there, thanks for reaching out! I'm so sorry to hear about this situation. Could you tell me how you charged the display? Did you try to charge it off the base for about 90 minutes? Also could you please answer the following questions?

  1. When was it installed?
  2. Is the thermostat display on a stand?
  3. When did the issue start?
  4. Is there a wiring report or error message on your thermostat and/or app?
  5. Do you see a blinking LED light? If so, is it red or green?
  6. Has there been any recent work done on your thermostat(s) or heating system?
  7. Were there any power outages?
  8. Were there any modifications to the internet configuration (for example: added extenders)?
  9. What are the Battery, VIN and VUSB values in Settings and then Technical Info and then Power?
  10. Is the thermostat display responsive when interacting with it?
  11. What troubleshooting steps have you done?

Hello:

Yes, I tried to charge it off base multiple times.  And when I would put it back.  It would work for about 15 minutes then it would say "shutting off because battery is charging".  My husband finally had to remove it and connect the wires manually to get heat.  Then it got too hot.  We need this fixed.

  1. When was it installed? February, 2023
  2. Is the thermostat display on a stand? Display
  3. When did the issue start? 3 weeks ago, one week before I posted on this community.
  4. Is there a wiring report or error message on your thermostat and/or app? No
  5. Do you see a blinking LED light? If so, is it red or green? Red
  6. Has there been any recent work done on your thermostat(s) or heating system? No
  7. Were there any power outages? No
  8. Were there any modifications to the internet configuration (for example: added extenders)? No
  9. What are the Battery, VIN and VUSB values in Settings

    Technical Info

    Power? Battery is 3.666 V, Voc is 37.98 V, and Vin is 34.93 v
  10. Is the thermostat display responsive when interacting with it? Yes
  11. What troubleshooting steps have you done? I have charged it via USB multiple times,  I have reset it.  Gone on youtube multiple times to thy and figure this out and I have tried them all.  I've used our other nest from upstairs and it actually worked.  Checked power, wiring, and fuse.  All are good.  Again we have the same exact Nest (Google Nest Learning Thermostat - Programmable Smart Thermostat for Home - 3rd Generation Nest Thermostat)  upstairs and it works fine.

Please help.

I have completed a second form and submitted today.  I did complete the form originally on 11/17.

I have been very busy and couldn't get to it until tonight.  I hope you will be able to help me.  We have been switching our other Nest from upstairs to downstairs depending on where are.  I hope to get this resolved.  Please let me know if you've received my submission.

Thank you.
