I bought a Nest Thermostat E some years ago, but never opened the box. Recently opened the box, charged the display via micro USB, installed base (5 wire: Y,G,R,W,C) but when I put the display on the base I get the same issue as @Underpar "The display shows the house icon, sometimes it flashes green and then flashes orange, then the thermostat reboots and keeps doing this over and over" (from Nest E is constantly rebooting during install - Google Nest Community)
Even tried letting battery die (leaving display off base for some hours) then mounting the display: in this case it flashes red light for a while (recharging) then goes back to the behavior above
As stated by user @Underpar "It seems to be stuck. Therefore, I haven't proceeded far enough along to add the thermostat in the app."
Any suggestions to move past the house icon? Any advice greatly appreciated 🙂
only thing on the screen other than flashing green/orange lights

Someone from Google contacted me. We went through multiple additional troubleshooting steps, but did not find a solution and I was advised to purchase a new thermostat (since the device was "new in the box" but purchased multiple years ago, the warranty is expired :()
