Can Nest device transfer to new phone remotely?

Thank you @MelbaDT for clarifying that pairing requires physical proximity to the thermostat.  A new challenge has arisen just days before my planned trip to pair.

My S9+ is inexplicably shutting itself off.  If I pair this device to the Nest thermostat but need to change to a new mobile later, will I need to start process all over?  If so, I'll need to scramble to get a new phone before trip.

Original post 3 weeks ago:

Nest Learning Thermostat installed, WiFi detected; unable to add device to Nest app remotely.

The newly installed thermostat is in Arizona.  I'm in California.  Is it possible to add the device to my Samsung phone that's physically 800 miles away?  App controls a recently installed Google Home Mini at the California home.

Add your Nest thermostat to the Nest app - Google Nest Help

Note: You’ll need to be able to touch your thermostat to add it to your account in the Nest app. This means that you won’t be able to add it remotely. After you’ve added your thermostat to your account, you’ll be able to use the Nest app on your phone, tablet, or computer to control your thermostat from anywhere.

I'll be heading out to the property in a few weeks to introduce the phone and the thermostat to one another. Hoping they'll pair nicely.

Hi SunValleySherpa,

Thanks for the post and sorry for the delay.

You can change your mobile phones and does not need to pair your new phone to your Nest Thermostat. Just download the Home app or the Nest app and sign in using the same email address that you used to setup your device.

Best,

Mel

Hello everyone.

I had no trouble pairing the device to my phone.  A simple QR code scan did the trick.  Thank you for following up.
