Can’t connect Nest to wifi or app

JoeP320

We were sent a replacement Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd generation but it will not pick up our wifi so I can’t connect it to the app. I talked to support and they said the thermostat now has to be within 12ft of the router to pick it up. Does anyone know if this is true? The one I took off the wall today was probably 3 years old and connected to the wifi and app with no problem, so it seems ridiculous that this new one won’t connect. Any suggestions? We can’t really move the location of the thermostat since it is already wired on the wall, and if I wanted to move the router then I’d have to get our internet provider out to drill a new entry point since we currently only have the one we’re using.

Hi JoeP320,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with connecting your Nest Thermostat to your WiFi. I'd love to know more about this and I have a few questions:

  • What message are you getting when it fails to connect to WiFi?
  • Is it detecting other networks?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Edward
