Hi I’m really confused I can get this to work. Can someone please help me with wiring my thermostat? There is also 2 unused wires inside the wall one is black and one is brown. The red and and white both also has jumper. How should I wire the nest thermostat?

Looks like you have a Heat Pump system correct?

If yes then you wire it like this (do not use any jumpers on the Nest).

Red to R

Blue to C

Orange to O/B*

White to W

Yellow to Y

Green to G

The tell it you have a Heat Pump with forced air

  • Yes I do hav a heat pump. Okay so neither does my thermostat or the board in my furnace shows C… is that matter or do I need a c wire adapter also or no just follow what you have mentioned above.

B is same as C in some brands of furnaces, so its already set up as your C wire (as long as its connected to B at the furnace end).

Did you set up the Heat Pump balance setting?

It has to use the auxilliary heat when it gets really cold outside and cannot heat the house with only the heat pump but there are options how you want that balance to work.

This is what it is showing under system detail. Is this correct?

No that says it will always use the electric heat coils you only want that if it is really cold outside.

You want the heat pump to heat the house (using the outside ac unit) until it can no longer supply enough heat, then the electric heat coils will turn on as backup. You want to avoid using electric coils as mush as possible because it costs more than running the heat pump.

I believe I have fixed  I reset the thermostat and started the setting all over. I made the mistake of choosing yes for dual fuel. Now I got an option for heat pump. Pictures below can you please verify. Thank you for all of your help through out this process!!!1C111E6F-0A82-4A28-A991-57300F894BFD.png

Ok yes I was going to say I think you set it up wrong type system but now it looks correct for heat pump and gives you the balance options.

Try it out for a while and you can always switch it to Max Comfort if it feels like its taking too long to heat the house but it uses more electric coil heat so electric bill is higher on Max comfort vs Balanced.

Yes I did notice that. I’ll switch if it takes long time to heat.

now the system did shut off once reached set temp.

The outside unit  fan keep coming on and going off. Is that because nest decides when should the fan should run or not?

It is probably the defrost cycle. Heat pumps run like a air conditioner in reverse for heating. The outside coil gets cold as it absorbs heat from the outdoor air and the coil ices up. Periodically it shuts off and has to defrost the coil to melt the ice and it runs the fan outside during that defrost cycle.

Not sure if it is ok to jump in? Should this work? Compatibility link says it I should be able to use Nest but the app says no.  I read that the S1 and S2 wires would not be used.

just tape off the S wires not needed but don't let them touch each other (or disconnect at the air handler end also).

Once it is running set up your heat pump balance settings to make it run more efficiently.

Hello folks,

I wanted to ensure that everything was covered here.

Thanks for helping here, Houptee.

We're glad to know it's been working smoothly, @James91. If there’s anything else I can help you with, please let me know.

@imoksoami, It appears that you wired your Nest Thermostat correctly. Try resetting your thermostat to default settings and setting it up again. Please make sure to select the appropriate wires for configuration and let us know if that helps.

Yes, I made sure I wired correctly... Before returning I decide to shut everything off except the lights in my house. Shutdown comcast router, computers and anything to do with bluetooth or related. And left it all off. Went to thermostat with iphone and the app connected immediately. Bizarre
