Hello Shonakb87,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest Community Forum.

It appears that you have a Heat Pump system; please follow this wiring setup for your Nest Thermostat:

  • Red wire > R/Rc terminal (Power)
  • White wire > W/W1 terminal (Heat)
  • Yellow wire > Y/Y1 terminal (Cool)
  • Green wire > G/G1 terminal (Fan)
  • Blue wire > C terminal (24 V Common wire)
  • Brown wire > O/B Terminal (Heat Pump)

Note: Turn off the power from your HVAC system at the breaker box before touching the wires. Then, restart your thermostat and reconfigure its wires.

Keep me posted if that helps.

Regards,
Mark

Tried that, and it will only blow out heat from my vents. Changed the settings from o to b and still heat only when set on cool. Swapped the blue and brown and still is only doing heat.

Hi Shonakb87,

Thanks for the update. Which Nest Thermostat model do you have? Could you please share with me a photo of it showing how it was installed?

I'll look forward to your response.

Best,
Mark

It is the nest learning thermostat. I do not have a picture at the moment because I needed to reinstall my old thermostat because I needed my a/c on. I can try again and get a picture.

Hello there,

I appreciate your help here, Jenelyn.

@Shonakb87, thanks for sharing the photo. One more thing: please share with us a photo of your HVAC system control panel, where these wires are connected. It appears that you might not have a common wire but two separate wires for your heat pump with O and B. This is to confirm how they are being labeled.

Keep us in the loop.

Mark

So, my brother (an hvac tech) suggested putting the blue wire on o/b and brown wire in c. And having the heat pump set on 'O. So far it is cooling and heating and everything just fine.
