Connecting Nest Temperature Sensor to Nest Thermostat

I bought the Nest Temperature Sensor and I assumed it would be compatible with the Nest Thermostat. Not Nest Thermostat E or Nest Learning Thermostat, just Nest Thermostat. I keep seeing that the temperature sensor is compatible with E and Learning, but is it not with just the Nest Thermostat? I needed to set up my thermostat on the Nest app to connect the temperature sensor because I had only had it set up on the Google app. When doing so it asked for an entry key and all I found online was people saying to go to the Nest app on the thermostat itself, which I don't believe is on the Google Nest Thermostat. So does that mean it's not compatible?

Thanks for posting here in the Community forum and for showing interest in our Nest Temperature Sensor. Currently, only the Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd generation and Nest Thermostat E are what is compatible with our Nest Temperature Sensor. Learn about the Nest Temperature Sensor here.
