I changed router info and need to reconnect my Nest to my Google home but after going through the process it always ends by stating "can't connect to Google".

Try this

Open nest app and change location to a room not used in Google Home app (something like attic or garage)

Open Google Home app and see if you can now find nest app / thermostat

Once found -

Still in Home app change thermostat location to where it should be

Go back to Nest app and change location to where it should be

Post back on here if this solves your issue

I tried setup in another location but the same issue occurs: it finds the device, connects to WiFi and the unit says connected but then says finishing up and this may take a while. Then shows: "there was a problem communicating with Google, try again".

I redid everything including using another Google account, having my wife delete her home app and factory reset the unit. Same story: process goes fine but when finalizing shows message " problem communicating with Google. Try again."

Hello folks,

I wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

Thanks for assisting, Jake.

@Joe18, I know it has been a while, but I wanted to ensure that everything is covered here. How's your thermostat? Were you able to reconnect your thermostat to your Wi-Fi network? Let us know if you still need help so we can assist you right away.

Regards,

Mark

The issue has not been resolved and I replaced the unit with the original non-smart one I had before.

Hi Joe18,

Thanks for the update. I'm sorry for the delay. Do you still have your Nest Thermostat? You will be needing to install it back to proceed with the troubleshooting.

Regards,
Jenelyn

So I've reset my router and now it works again. I had changed the router name thinking it was safer, but I see it caused more issues than help. So thanks for checking in and I'm glad it's working now.
