My Nest doesn't activate the AC when the temperature exceeds the requested temperature.  When I manually activate it, it will start.  Please help.

Hi @joemfry,

Thanks for posting here in the community. I'm sorry to hear your Nest thermostat doesn't activate the AC. Help's here!

To better understand the situation, I'd like to ask a few questions:

  • What kind of Nest thermostat do you have?
  • What type of HVAC system do you have?
    • Is it a conventional or heat pump system?
  • Does it happen with cooling, heating, or both?
  • Would you mind sharing a picture of your wiring installation?
  • Did you get an error message?
  • Is this a new installation?

In the meantime, let's check a few things:

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Melany

I have a Nest Learning Thermostat.
It's a conventional AC, gas furnace/electric AC
I'm not sure if it happens with heating, the problem seems to have started recently.
I don't believe the wiring is the issue, the device has been working properly since installation until recently.
There's no error message
The installation is approximately a year old.

I have checked the schedules in the Nest app, and they are set to the temperatures I would like, but at various times the thermostat seemingly ignores it.  Eco mode is disabled when this occurs.

Hi there!

Thanks for the follow-up information.

Please try the steps here:

  • Disable auto-schedule: You can turn off the Auto-schedule. By going to settings on your thermostat >  Nest Sense > Auto-Schedule. Refer to this article: How Nest thermostats learn.
  • Check if your Nest thermostat is locked: Prevent unauthorized people from changing settings on the thermostat. For more information, refer to How to lock and unlock your Nest thermostat.
  • Reset - schedules: A thermostat restart can fix some common issues. Reset your thermostat to clear your personal settings. Follow these steps to Reset schedules.
    • Note: If those steps don't work you can factory reset your device. Also, you should monitor your thermostat for 24 hours.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Melany
