Fan won’t stop running

Th284
Community Member

The fan has been running all day even when the AC is not on. Can’t find a way on the thermostat to turn off the fan. Only display I see is to set the timer for 15 minutes but it wouldn’t shut off.  The only way to turn it off is the breaker. Is there a compatibility issue?

You could do some troubleshooting to help:

  • Send a picture of the wiring of your thermostat.
  • While the thermostat is off the mounting plate does the fan continue to run?
  • Try temporarily removing the G wire. Does the fan still run?
  • On some thermostats they can be configured to turn on the fan when heat is called. Normally that is not necessary because the furnace will do that. Verify that setting is correct.
  • Verify the equipment configured on the thermostat matches your actual HVAC equipment.

I have the same problem. Everything us wired correctly. When I remove the G wire the fan finally shuts off.

Hey Ryan - I need help. I’m having the same problem - my fan runs non-stop. I detached the G wire and the fan still runs. It only stops when I turn off the breaker

If your fan is running all the time even when the G wire is disconnected, it most likely is the HVAC unit malfunctioning. If you pull the thermostat off of the base and the fan still runs, it definitely is the HVAC unit.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing this here in the Google Nest Community.

I'd like to check in here if you're still having the same issue with the fan running continuously. Have you tried to remove the Nest Thermostat from the base like what sporfrog has mentioned? Is it still running even if it is being removed? Also, let us know which Nest Thermostat you're using and if you have a G wire connected to it.

Thanks for your help, sporfrog.

Best regards,

Ryan

We are having the same issue with fan running non-stop. It worked fine until a granddaughter messed with the thermostat and the heat setting was at 84 when I discovered it. We have tried a full reset and it is still running even with the fan turned to "off".

Thanks for checking in.  Turns out the problem was with the AC unit, not the Nest.  Our granddaughter had messed with the Nest so we assumed that is where things went wrong.  She's off the hook!

I have started facing this issue about a month after installation of the Nest Thermostat with c wire adapter. The fans continually runs if the thermostat is plugged in. For a month I had no problems.

when I remove the thermostat of the mount plate the fan stops. I also got the hvac unit inspected and the personal told me that it’s a fault with the nest and also checked that adapter if it’s sending power to the fan using the c wire adapter. Every looks good

is there a resolution for this ?
