Ordered a Nest gen 4 thermostat since my gen 1 will be bricked in October by Google. FYI, you must use Google Home application to install the thermostat and it will NOT show up in the Nest application. Also, Nest Protect devices will NOT show up in the Google Home application so you have to use two applications to manage your Nest devices.
Also, my gen 1 Nest thermostat would let me run my furnace fan 24/7. The gen 4 thermostat will not allow that functionality and you must manually restart the fan running on a weekly basis. All confirmed by tech support on 5/2/25. No known timeline on getting all devices to show up in Google Home application.
Thanks Google for forcing migration to new devices and applications to retain features and then not providing integration in your ecosystem.

Honestly, at this point after they announced they'll stop supporting the first generations or thermostats there is zero reason to buy anything from Google anymore. Especially not the thermostats.
Who's to say they won't stop supporting those in a few years either?
Remember when thermostats were a lifetime thing you just had hanging on your wall until the end of time?
Not if Google has any say in it!

Thanks for the response. I believe that I have figured out and resolved my issues. I found the fan settings in the Google Home application and also successfully merged the Nest Protect devices into the application. Now seeing if everything operates properly. It would have been easier if the tech support agent i spoke with who informed me that neither of the options were available was informed about the features.
