Current Setup: Nest Gen3 Learning Tstat, Attic - New CARRIER (entire) System (single_stage H&C) + Control Board; 18/4 wiring (home built in 200X w/ old Tstat, hence Nest PowerConnector in lieu of C-wire :
Brief historical notes:
- Purchased home '21
- Gen3 Tstat purchased circa Q1 '19, installed (most likely) with indifference to 18/4 wiring lacking C-wire
- N PowerConnector - added in Q2 '22 after receiving - despite weekly recharges using micro-USB - numerous Low Battery signals leading to disconnects from SSID and eventually shutting down and causing headaches)
- Q3 '23: Total replacement of HVAC system by a Contractor in whom we have little confidence in HVAC competence, and even LESS on their Nest knowledge. Contractor reconnected PowerConnector and felt that Tstat wiring was fine (they claimed Nest Pro certification, but failed to demonstrate it)
- numerous calls were made to Nest support - most of them were helpful, but more recently they suggested hiring a NestPro/HVAC person to troubleshoot
- today's Nest TechSupport, using techsee.me session, pointed out Settings>Equipment screen missing PowerConnector as below
Euipment_Missing_PowerConnector
- saw the wiring by the PowerConnector @ the CB and felt everything looked right in the Attic,
- she suggested that the PowerConnector might be defective.
- Troubleshooting section of "Nest Power Connector Pro Installation Guide" states -
- On the Nest Thermostat, the Power Connector is not shown under Settings > Equipment
The Nest Thermostat may need a software update. Check for an update at Settings > Version > Update
and confirm the thermostat has version 1.1 or later. Well,
Up2date_Software_Version
confirms that the issue lies somewhere else.
Nest Support has agreed to ship a new PowerConnector!
In the meantime, can anyone (with as close to a setup as mine), please post screenshots from
- Settings > Equipment,
- Settings > Equipment > Power Connector, AND
- Settings > Equipment > Power Connector > Power Test
Many thanks,
Ramesh
