Google Nest & Sensor Issues

Hi there, we recently moved into a new house which has the nest learning thermostat in the upstairs main area and a sensor which is located in the basement area right now. Both the basement and the two front rooms on the main floor are a lot colder than the rest of the house so we are trying to figure out the best way to set up the sensor so that all areas are the same temperature. When we put the sensor in the upstairs bedrooms and have the heat regulate off that, the rest of the upstairs gets super hot. If we move the sensor downstairs then the two front rooms upstairs stay cold. Is there a way to set this up better? Do I need to get a third sensor perhaps?

Hello Croftys,

Congratulations on your new house! It sounds like you're facing a bit of a temperature challenge, but there are definitely ways to optimize your Nest Thermostat setup.

To optimize your Nest Thermostat, consider adding a third sensor strategically: one in the upstairs main area, another in the basement, and the third in a colder front room. This way, you can create a more balanced temperature regulation across different zones in your house. Make sure to check thermostat settings for options to average temperatures from multiple sensors for consistent comfort. It might take some trial and error, but you'll likely achieve a more even temperature distribution.

Please check out the Change Nest Temperature Sensor Settings article and let us know if you have more questions.

Best regards,
Mark

Hi Mark, thanks for your advice. We purchased a second sensor and have placed them as suggested. I cannot seem to find a setting to average temperatures though? Can you assist? Thanks!
