H71 error on replacement heat link

SteveAce

I have a gen 2 thermostat and heat link.

In January I had Boxt replace my heat link under the Google free service.  Up until this that point (3 years or so) it all worked fine.

Tonight I got the H71 error and whatever I do I cannot get the thermostat and heat link to pair.

I went to Screwfix to get a new gen 3 system but when I got home it was working again, but now has stopped again.

Can anyone help?

Hello there! Thanks for posting and I'm sorry to hear about your issue. Please try the following troubleshooting steps:

Turn off the WiFi router.

1. Reset the Heat Link by keeping the button on it pressed for 30 seconds until the LED goes slowly pulsing blue.
2. Take the thermostat off the base and give it a restart, off the base by holding the display and the back of the thermostat pressed for 10-12 seconds. (Hamburger reset)
3. While the thermostat is restarting, do not put it back on the base yet, but instead, reset the Heat Link again just like before.
4. After the Heat Link is reset, put the thermostat back on the base when it asks you to do so on the screen.
5. Go to: Replace Heat Link (underneath the H71 error code) and enter the 6 character entry key from the Heat Link, but do not connect just yet.
6. Restart the Heat Link twice (1 restart is a 30 seconds press, until the LED goes off once).
7. Press connect on the display.

Let me know how it goes.

Many thanks for your reply.

I did try all this as I found the same instructions on a previous post.  However, it seems to be working again now and I think the problem may have been with my broadband router as my SKY Q Mini box also had some bizarre connection issues last night too.

I thought the Nest Thermostat and heat link could run independently from a WIFI router.  Is that not correct?

Glad to hear that your device is working now. Indeed, both devices can work without the internet connection. If you disconnect the thermostat from the WI-FI, you'll no longer be able to control the thermostat through the Nest or Home App. Please let me know if there's anything else I can assist you with.
