Heat/Cool Mode Lock

Condo612
Community Member

Documentation says, while the thermostat is locked:
"Anyone can turn the thermostat’s ring to change the temperature within the range you’ve set"

It seems that this is only possible in HEAT -or- COOL mode not HEAT*COOL mode.

I see many post asking for this feature (temperature adjustment on a NEST that is in HEAT*COOL mode) but I do not find any resolution.  This would be a huge feature for those of us with rental properties.

Thanks,

Will this issue ever be addressed?

Does anyone know of a product that will allow a renter to set a temp within a range (Heat or Cool required) and also run a schedule?

Hi Condo612,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Google Nest Community.

You can set the lock feature even in Heat-Cool mode. Check out this link to learn more.

I hope it helps.

Regards,

Ryan

When locked in Heat-Cool mode, I can not adjust the temp without the PIN.
I need to be able to adjust the temp within a range while in Heat-Cool mode just like I can in Heat or Cool Mode.

Like this--
When you lock your Nest thermostat in Heat mode or Cool mode, you'll set a temperature range after you create a four digit PIN. Anyone can turn the thermostat's ring to change the temperature within the range you've set, but they won't be able to set the temperature outside of your range or change any of your settings.
--but in Heat-Cool mode

I would like to put it in a rental unit.
The renter could adjust the temp up-down / heat/cool as they desired but the schedule would reset the set-points each night.

Thanks,
Charles

Hi Condo612,

Thanks for the reply.

Got it. You cannot change the temperature range or settings when you've set a lock within heat-cool mode. What you can do is to use the Google Home, Nest app or unlock the thermostat.

Another way to set your desired temperature is to set a temperature schedule or set your lock in heat or cool mode.

We'll take this as feedback and thank you for sharing it with us. It'll help us create a more helpful products in the future.

Ryan

Thanks for replying.

This seems like such a simple fix in the NEST firmware.

I truly hope is is included in a future firmware upgrade or perhaps the next generation of NEST Thermostats.

Thanks, Charles

I do not think the NEST Thermostat will do what I need.
Allow set-point adjustment within a range while lock in HEAT*COOL mode.
