Heat Mode ONLY?!

Let's try this again and hope for a timely communication from Google🙏. My thermostat controls a pair of Cadet wall heaters (think toasters with fans). I have no cooling system at all. It is a three wire system. It is wired to Y-C-R. The device and the app only allow me "Cooling" mode and "Off". I have attempted to change it to "Heating" through both the device and the app and there appears to be no option. **I can turn my heaters on by dialing the temp to a a low temperature setting but eventually the device tells me that the system is malfunctioning because the "Cooling" is not lowering the temperature in the home.

Hi steve121,

Thanks for reaching out. The terminal for heating in the Nest Thermostats should be W terminal. Could you please share with us the photo of the wires that are connected directly to your heating system control board?

Best,

Jenelyn

When I try to upload a photo, Google tells me I do not have permissions to do so. So, I will try to explain:

Red wire to "R", Yellow wire to "Y", White wire to "C".

If you are correct, could I simply move White wire to "W" and resolve the issue? or will I have to do something within the Nest setup?

Hello everyone,

I wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

Thanks for the help here, Jenelyn.

@steve121, to better understand your system configuration, can you share with us at least a photo of your heater's control panel so we can see how the wires are being installed? If you verify that the white wire is your heating wire and not the 24 Volt Common wire, move it to the W terminal and restart your thermostat to reconfigure its wire before activating your system.

Let us know if that works.

Regards,
Mark
