Heat must be turned off and on for it to work

I have been using the Nest thermostat with no issues for the past 10 months or so. We have been using the heat on a regular schedule for the past 6 weeks. All of a sudden I have been experiencing an issue where the thermostat turns on with the schedule, but the heat is not actually on. It does turn on if I set the thermostat to off, then back to heat mode. Not sure what has changed in the past week.

Hi rjurata,

Uh-oh! I'm sorry to hear that your heating is suddenly not following your schedule anymore. Are you located in North America or Europe? What type of Nest Thermostat do you have? Did you try using the Help Center or troubleshooter before contacting support? If so, which steps have you tried already? You may also take a look here at troubleshooting strange heating or cooling behavior for a fix.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Zoe

Hi Zoe,

Thank you for taking the time to respond to the question. We are in North America and have the Nest Learning Thermostat. I looked around, but couldn't really find anything that looked exactly like the issue we are having. I have tried doing a soft restart, and also did a full factory reset. Neither fixed the issue. I also opened up the furnace and cleaned the fan. A heating specialist is going to come by soon to take a look at the whole system. Hopefully they can resolve the issue if it's not related to the thermostat itself.

Hi there,

I see, and thank you for trying some workarounds on your end to fix the issue. I'll keep this thread open and will wait for your update until after an HVAC professional is done to check on the situation.

Thanks.

Zoe
