Heat,on too much?

NealW

Cold weather coming to Ohio. I’m new to Nest wanting to learn.
Biggest question is the Nest is set to 69F for Comfort. Display screen show temperature at 69 and heating to 69 which continues to heat for 30-60 minutes beyond that reading. Why is that? Display is rounding the temperature from the sensor?

Outside temp overnight around 20F. Sleep set to 67. Heat pump ran 4 hours straight overnight till I changed it to 66. With colder temperatures coming this week, I’m concerned about costs with it running so much. On 1/5/2024 it ran for 18+ hours.

Thoughts? I’ve reduced Comfort to 69 and reduced Sleep to 66. Seems to help slightly.

Thanks, Neal

Hi @NealW!

Thanks for reaching out to the community. I am happy to know that you want to learn more about the Nest thermostat, but no need to worry; help is here.

We appreciate all of your previous troubleshooting efforts. I need to know a few things about your thermostat in order to provide you with a better resolution.

  • What Nest thermostat model do you have? For your reference, you can check out this article on how to tell which Nest thermostat you have.
  • Does the thermostat display show any error codes or messages?
  • When was the thermostat installed?
  • What is the make and model of your HVAC equipment?
  • When did you install your HVAC equipment?

I'll be waiting for your response; any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Best regards,

Jeremy.
