Heat pump Nest thermostat wiring help

JsmithFin
Community Member

Currently have a Braeburn thermostat with the following wiring (this was the setup when I moved in):

Rh: jumpered to Rc

Rc: red wire in

Y1: yellow wire in

G: green wire in

W1/E: brown wire in

W2: white wire in

O: orange wire in

B: not used

C: blue wire in

When I switched to the nest thermostat and plugged all the wires into their respectively labeled terminals, the nest system tells me I can only have one aux input (highlighting both W1 and W2 terminals as issues).

Looking for recommendations on which W is the correct one to use and if the other should be plugged into the * terminal.

Thanks!

Hi, @JsmithFin,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand that wiring can be challenging, but we can work together to find a solution. I'm happy to assist you further.

To identify how to enter every wire, I would like to know:

Also, would you mind sharing a picture of the previous wiring configuration and the current one?

Feel free to ask any questions you might have along the way.

Best regards,

Ana.

Hi Ana,

For some reason I can't upload images (the option disappears after the message post box loads).

Currently using a Braeburn thermostat with the wiring configuration outlined in my original post:

Rh: jumpered to Rc

Rc: red wire in

Y1: yellow wire in

G: green wire in

W1/E: brown wire in

W2: white wire in

O: orange wire in

B: not used

C: blue wire in

I'm trying to connect to a nest learning thermostat. Removed the Rh jumper when installing the nest. The W1 cable plugged into W1 terminal and W2 plugged into the W2 terminal. This configuration caused an E83 error.

Hi, @JsmithFin

Thank you so much for your response and letting me know your thermostat model. I'm happy to provide you with further assistance.

Here's how to connect the wires:

Important: Before you begin, turn off the power breaker to your HVAC system.

  • Yellow wire connects to Y1.
  • Green wire connects to G.
  • Orange wire connects to O/B.
  • Red wire connects to Rc.
  • White wire connects to W1.
  • Blue wire connects to C.
  • Brown wire connects to * (star connector).

Please let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Ana
