Heat pump not working

Jamie3
Community Member

I installed the Nest Learning Thermostat on Thursday. I followed the installation directions from the Nest app. I noticed that aux heat will work but not my heat pump. The compressor won't kick on at all for the heat pump. I have a 1 stage heat pump. I've included a picture of the old setup. I just need to know how to wire this thing because I don't think the directions the Nest app gave me during installation were correct. I didn't use the jumper wire when installing the Nest because it said it wasn't needed. I have wires for Aux, Y, G, O, R. Any help would be appreciated before I take this out and put the old thermostat back in. Thanks!!

I've also tried the white wire in W1 and it doesn't make a difference. This is how the Nest app had me hook the wires up.

Move the Rh wire to Rc. The Heat Pump is basically and air conditioner that can reverse the refrigerant flow. So the Rc is cooling power.

This didn't work. The heat pump still doesn't come on. It works when you run the test but any other time it doesn't.

@Jamie3

Are you up to a little troubleshooting?

Turn the power to your system off

Take the Y1, G, and Rh (or Rc) wires and twist them together.

Turn the power to the system back on.

Do you feel heated or cool air blowing?

Power the system down again

Add the O/B wire to the other three wires

Power the system on

You should feel cool or heated air?

If you first felt heated air the you should feel cool air.

If you feel the same both time, you proboly have a equipment problem and not a thermostat problem.
