Heat turns on but not off, need help winter is coming fast

Hello,

As the title says my Nest 4 will control the Heat on but once the house has reached the desired temp (only noticed while in heat/cool so far) to get it to stop over heating however I have to set the thermostat to “Off” for the command to make it to the unit

i have performed a “reset” not a factory reset it did not help. Thermostat is only ~6 months old.

only “weird” setting I noticed is under heat configuration in setting it has my heat source as forced air electric, while we do have a heat pump we also have natural gas for the winter heat when temps drop below 40f outside

any help is greatly appreciated

Hi @KamakazeeKoalaa,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing an issue where your Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen) turns on your heat but doesn't turn it off once the desired temperature is reached, forcing you to manually set it to "Off." I appreciate you letting us know that you have already performed a soft reset on your Nest Thermostat and provided information about your heating source. I'm happy to assist you in troubleshooting this issue.

I'd like to get more information to better understand the issue you're experiencing. Please provide the information requested below:

  • When did the issue start?
  • Do you notice any intervals or specific patterns in this strange behavior?
  • What kind of HVAC system do you have? (Heat pump, conventional system, etc.)
  • Does the issue happen when cooling also, or only when heating?
  • Have you checked the power readouts on the Nest thermostat?
  • Do you have a common wire or C-wire?
  • Are there any error messages? If so, what are they exactly?

In addition, please provide a photo of the wiring on your Nest Thermostat's base.

Keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.

Regards,

Anders

Hi Anders

I am having the same issue.  I was hoping you could help me.

I received my new 4th Gen Thermostat Oct. 28, Installed Nov. 3rd. Issue has been happening since Nov. 8th.

I have a Heat Pump, Forced  Air Trane HVAC system. The Power readouts are all normal, no Errors. I have a C wire. o error messages are displayed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as winter is coming and it's getting cold.

Thanks.
