Good morning, it’s the dead of winter, Christmas Eve 2022 wouldn’t you know it my heater makes a dull humming sound. It’s three 3 AM. What to do now? I happen to be on the couch up late when this happens. So it only took a few moments to notice a problem. I immediately go to the Nest thermostat to shut it off. Less than five minutes pass. There’s a terrible smell. Thank goodness it didn’t catch on fire. Smoldering maybe. Could it be lint on the coils? Idk. Could it be the thermostat? My only source of heat is now my oven. Or a plug in heater. My thermostat did not register any issues and the app didn’t either. Does anyone have suggestions for my concerns? Thank you. Merry Christmas 🎄

Hi Smcollier70,
Thanks for reaching out ― let's see what's going on.
Give these steps a try:
Check your air filter, as a clogged filter may cause a similar symptom.
If the air filter is dirty and needs to be changed, I recommend replacing it and let us know if the issue continues after you change the filter.
Keep us posted.
Best,
Mel
