I have noticed the heating switching on although the nest thermostat is not programmed to switch on at the time. Auto schedule & learning is turned off ?

I've been experiencing the same recently. I have been with Google support over the phone for a couple of hours and have done all sorts of checks including a factory reset, I have also had an experienced plumber look at the whole system—however no luck. I would appreciate an answer from Google on this. My bill is going crazy during a global energy crisis.

Hi, It’s happened again, so i have reduced the ECO & Safety temperatures. It will be interesting to see if others have this problem arising ? Could be a common fault arising.

Hi folks,

I'm sorry for the trouble this may have caused — let's see what's going on and why heating randomly activates.

Going over the steps in this article about Home/Away Assist might help. Please try disabling it, and let me know if that helps or if the issue still persists.

Thanks for helping here, @CBFox.

Regards,
Mark

Hi Mark, thanks for the info but I have previously tried disabling home/away which didn’t have any affect as the heating turned on again spotaineously. What I have done now is the lower the last a.m set point down a few more degrees and that appears to stop the heating coming on, however as the weather has got considerably colder the heating has come again so I will need to lower it again.

it looks the Nest programme has fundamental flaws that it doesn’t act turning the thermostat off completely.

regards

Nick

I had misinterpreted your post  --  yes, it's true, you can't schedule the Nest to turn off.  Unless you manually (or via Home/Away Assist) put the Nest into Eco mode or Off mode, it will always call for heat as much as is necessary to maintain the temperature of the most recent set point.  The closest you can get to "off" is 9C.  (Google, WHY did you implement that unnecessarily high minimum?)  In Eco mode you can go as low as 4C.

Hello there,

Thanks for assisting, @CBFox.

@NickV, I wanted to follow up and ensure you are good to go. How's your observation with your thermostat? Please let me know if that helps or if the issue still persists.

Regards,

Mark

Hello NickV,

I'm checking back in — how's it going? Still need our help? Let us know so we can assist you right away.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark, thanks for your enquiry. I think things seem to have settled down in regard to set points being created by the nest control. Only once recently the thermostat switched on but I think it was because the temperature dropped rapidly below the set temperature.  Thanks for your help.

Nick

Hi NickV,

Sounds great! Thanks for the update on what you've done to have your concern rectified. Yes, you're right based on your observation. One common reason for odd heating behavior is a significant temperature drop.

So I'll lock this thread for 24 hours. If you have any other concerns or questions, please feel free to create a new thread.

Regards,

Mark

First, when the heat comes on at an inappropriate time, does your Nest's (or app's) screen show that it is calling for heat because it believes that its target temperature is higher than the room temperature?

Second, have you programmed a schedule, or are you trying to operate the Nest manually only?

Even if you never set up a schedule in your Nest (because you want to operate it strictly manually), there is probably a default schedule in there. When you twirl the dial or click buttons in the app, that's only a temporary command; the Nest will revert to its schedule at the time of the next set point.

Nest thermostats are designed to run on a schedule but if that's not what you want, you can delete the schedule. Click on Schedule to edit the times and temperatures to your liking. If you don't want a schedule at all, you can perform a reset that wipes it out. Follow the instructions in this article: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9247296?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid#zippy=%2Crese...

(I'm sorry if a lot of this misses the point; I couldn't tell from your post exactly how you're trying to control the Nest.)

Hi,

thanks for your info. I hope I have sussed it by turning off auto schedule as since it’s bee switched off No additional set points have been placed in the schedule.

My problem seems to be different from @NickV . But I won't highjack this post 😉
