Heating coming on with hot water

Hello, I have just installed a new thermostat as the old one stopped working (wouldn’t hold charge). When the hot water comes on now, on a timer the central heating comes on too and vice versa. Any ideas how’s to correct this? This did not happen with the old one. I didn’t install the new heat link that came with the new thermostat.
