Heating or thermostat

We had our Nest thermostat installed a few months ago, it all seemed to be working fine controlling the heat. Since we had our furnace serviced

(Regular maintenance), it never gets to the set temperature. Today, it is cold outside, but the furnace has been running all day to get to 74, it is still 69. Is this a thermostat issue, or a furnace issue? I am unsure who to call for help? We did get several messages from the Nest that it had been running along time compared to past times?

many of us are dealing with this same issue.  It is the thermostat it is not the furnace.

Is there a solution?

so far the guidance that tech support has given me is:

Perform a factory reset.

Disable Nest Sense

Disable Home/Away

Disable presence sensing on the Home App

Remove your schedule.

Remove ECO temperatures.

Are you getting my drift ?  Pay $300 for a smart learning thermostat.  Now remove all features and use it as a 1990's manual thermostat.  And monitor it for 48 hours and let us know if your home now heats above 66.

I'm not kidding you.  This is the verbatim summary of a week's worth of hour long phone calls with the team.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I think I will teach out to the company that installed it, and see if they can help. I think it is still under warranty. I will post any results!

Hey everyone,

Thanks for bringing this up to us.

We're sorry that you're having this issue with the heating. As per @Mom2nb, it started after their furnace had been serviced, and there were no changes made to their Nest Thermostat, it is recommended to check your furnace with your HVAC technician. You could also restart your thermostat and remove it from the base and put it back in after a couple of minutes.

Let us know how it goes and we'll further help you.

Regards,

Ryan

Ryan the rest of us have not had out HVAC adjusted and this is not a furnace issue.  We have spent hours on the phone with customer support we have reset our thermostat taken off all sensing and auto learning shut off all the features that were the reason we bought the Nest thermostat and it still doesn't work.  But then some days it does.  Then it stops again.  The heating is not controlled properly by the thermostat.   Its very frustrating for all of us.

Hi, just a quick update since my original post, I talked with the company that installed the Nest, and they had many reasons why we were not getting aqdequate heat - we tried several things, but really nothing changed. They are coming out tomorrow for a service call to see if the Nest is talking properly to the acuator. I will keep you updated. I am really confused about what the source of the problem is, but hopefully will get some clarification tomorrow.

One thing to note here is to make sure you set the duel vs single fuel type properly. Most heat pumps that are having this issue is related to this setting and it should be set to single fuel. Since a duel fuel means you have another heating source such as gas/oil. In my case it was set to duel instead of single. I researched for many days until i just played with that setting and everything started working again. To change that setting you can go to nest pro setting.

Hi, a quick update after the technician visit, the Nest is working properly, opening up the acuator, allowing the fan coil to blow warm air. the air temperature coming out of the vents is 100+ degrees. He flet we need to make sure to change our filter each month, and possible get our fan coils cleaned. It has been a bit warmer in our condo, but it also has been warmer outside. We will pursue the remedies suggested, and hope that we can have more heat.

Hi, we actually only have hot water coming into our unit from the building, and the thermostat opens the acuator to allow it to flow into/over the fan coil, creating warm air. Then the fan blows the warm air through the ducts to each room. Would your comment apply? We have always been in a single family home with a forced air gas furnace, so this is a learning experinece for sure!

To all - I have had an incredibly productive hour and a half call with a senior Nest product person.  And yes, it was absolutely because I reached out to the CEO so I recommend this.

A few notes - for those that are experiencing the Home/Away issue.  Nest is working on it and and apparently it is due to an IOS version issue.  Upgrade to version of 15 something and it should work.  You won't need to use SST.  On the "ghost in the machine" issue you will need to spend $99 but its important so its worth it and they might reimburse for it.  Go into the Google Store.  Go to Nest.  Go to On Tech.  Select Thermostat.  Select trouble shooting.  Book an appointment for a Nest Expert in your area.  Someone who understands Nest will come out and troubleshoot it directly.  The guess for me is that is the electrical wiring not the hardware or software.  I will update the post after my appointment which is Saturday.
