I just installed my nest learning thermostat and it’s flashing green/orange. I charged it and it said to connect to base. When I did it had a blue line going in a circle then said thermostat shutting down. Now it’s flashing orange and green.

Do me a favor, please upload the picture you took of your old thermostat backplate so we can see what wires were attached to what. You have a wire on *OB and that means your system is a Heat Pump. Your current problem is you have no 24VAC common wire.  Take your nest display off the wall. Turn it over, get a USB cable attached and charge up the nest thermostat overnight.

in the meantime, we need to see if you have an extra wire that can be used for a common. If not, you’re going to have to purchase a Nest power adapter and have it installed.

Hi Britt2403,

Thanks for reaching out to us. I hope you've already gotten the answer you're looking for from the information and troubleshooting steps that CoolingWizard has shared. Also, a few questions: Were you using a micro-USB cable to charge the thermostat display? If so, have you made sure that the cable is working as well on your other device? And for how long did you charge the thermostat display?

On the other hand, when you charge your Nest Learning Thermostat display, it is just normal that it says "Please attach the thermostat display to its base" since the thermostat display is disconnected from its base. Just leave it charging for an hour, then place it back on its base once done. After that, look forr possible power error or message.

Keep us posted. We're happy to help.

Thanks for your help, @CoolingWizard

Best,

Zoe
