Home/Away Assist not working

SiobhanT

Home/Away Assist doesn't work. Neither does the 'reply' button on any of the messages on the board.

How on earth are we supposed to get any help???? Have been emailing Google support who ask a ton of questions, and when i reply to the email I get "thank you for reaching out - please get in touch with us in the usual way"

Totally infuriating. I feel like I'm in Google hell

Can you explain what you are trying to do with home and away? This is posted under Thermostats so I presume you have a Nest Thermostat. If so, which one? Any other relevant details are helpful.

I use home/away routines all the time and it works as expected so it will probably work for you too.

I don't know which one. Nest Learning?? Home /Away assist isn't working as expected. It comes on randomly and goes off randomly. For example, all afternoon it was saying 'Away' when I was right next to it. Whilst out this morning for over an hour it thought I was home and therefore heating an empty home.

With the Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Generation, you can use either the Nest app or the Google Home app. The principles apply to both, but the details vary depending which you use.

With home/away you can use mobile phones and/or certain nest devices to determine whether you are home or away. The best mix depends on individual situations, but I think for most people with just a thermostat using only mobile phones is the best solution.

To start with, only enable your phone(s) for home/away assist or presence sensing and no other devices. Every person's phone in the household should participate. People with more than one phone should generally only enable one. It will use the phone's location services to determine if a particular phone is nearby or not. When all phones are no longer nearby, Away is set. When at least one phone is nearby Home is set.

Make sure location services is on, enabled for the app (Nest and/or Google Home) and works on the phone. It will use cellular, wi-fi and GPS to determine where you are. Those need to be enabled. Make sure your phone accurately places you using Google Maps.

Hi Yes all of the above is on/enabled which is why I have come to this forum to find out why it is still not working. I was told yesterday to DISABLE nest thermostat (what decides...) Currently I am at home and, again, it is showing I am Away. I was also told to DISABLE nest learning. That web chat took 2 hours of my time.

Hey folks,

Thanks for answering to this, sporfrog.

@SiobhanT, sorry to hear about your experience and I understand how it feels to have a feature that is not working as it should on a device you've spent your hard-earned money on. I want to dig deeper into this.

Could you provide the case id of your interaction with our support team so I can review everything that you've already done?

Best,

Melba
