Home/Away assist errors - EXPENSIVE!

My Nest-E thermostat is switching to away correctly but then it will randomly switch to home after a few hours even when all of my household is still out. On the energy usage history it says 'resumed schedule, someone was expecetd home'. This is really annoying and is costing me money on expensive heating bills. There is nothing near the themostat that could cause it to detect motion / touch. The home / away assist is set up via Google Home app.

Anyone else had this problem??

E.g. my whole household was away from Monday afternoon to Wednesday evening but the Nest-E switched on the heating Monday evening, Tuesday morning, afternoon and evening.nest-e.jpg

Hi there! I'm sorry to hear about this, but I'm here to help. Could you please send me a picture of your schedule and also a picture of "What decides if you're home"? You'd find the latter on the Nest App > Settings > Home/Away Assist.

Hi Paul,

Grateful for you looking into this. Below screenshots of my schedule, the home/away settings from Nest app and the home/away settings from Google Home app. I have switched off the touch control and motion sensor setting in the Google Home app to see if this fixes the issue (e.g. relying only on phone location for presence sensing).

Thanks for all the pictures! Please go ahead and set one of the people to "yes", as if both are set to "no" there's no device to register the location of. Please let me know how the situation progresses with only one phone set to yes.

are you only providing support to Nest app? I was told that I should use the Google Home app for presence sensing and this is what I have tried to do. If I turn this on in the Nest app will that casue conflicts..?

I'd recommend using the Nest App for this feature, but if you change the settings in the Nest App it should change accordingly in the Google Home App as well.

I am just confused as I was previously instructed to set up home/away assist in Google Home app. Especially as the Nest app will be phased out. It has been working OK with Google Home except for the issue where it randomly switches from Away back to Home when we are out. The Google Home app says this is due to 'touch' detection (it can't be). The Nest history says 'someone was expected home' (???). For now I have just switched off the device (Nest-E) presence sensing in Google Home app and not changed anything in Nest app. I will see how this works. My partner is fed up with me having to install different apps and change settings on her phone to get this to work so I hope it just goes away......
